Luton town football club is a football team that currently plays in the English footballs league two division. The club was formed in 1885 and in 1897 Luton town wanderers moved to Dunstable road and merged with Excelsior to become Luton Town Football club, they then turned professional in 1890.
Luton started off in the Southern football league in 1894 the first professional club in the league. In 1898 Luton town joined the Football league; due to financial issues they rejoined the southern league in 1900.
In 1905 Luton town moved again this time to their current Kenilworth road ground, in 1907 Luton got it s first international player when team captain Bob Hawkes played for England against Ireland.
Luton continued in the southern leagues until 1920 when they rejoined the football league, in 1937 Luton won promotion up to the second division.
1959 saw Luton get to the FA Cup final losing two goals to one to Nottingham forest.
In 1974 Luton town won promotion to the top tier of English football, achieving its highest ever position of seventh place in 1987.
1988 and Luton town win the league cup by beating Arsenal three goals to two, the club managed to reach the league cup final again in 1989 but lost out three goals to one by Nottingham forest.
Luton have yo-yoing between the top division and the lower divisions for most of its existence having never played in the recently established premier division 2009 saw Luton relegated from the football league into the conference national league the same year they won the football league trophy beating Scunthorpe United 3-2.
